In about 5 short weeks, Nancy and I will be leading a team of awesome young people and adults on a short-term missions trip to Nicaragua. This will be my third international missions trip, and Nancy’s sixth.
It’s the first one I’ve coordinated and helped to plan, which has been a challenge. I’ll probably write about that process when all is said and done. I’ll say one thing now – don’t do it alone. Talk to experienced missions trip planners, consult missionaries, and invest in a couple of key resources to walk you through the process. We’re lucky to be going with a great, very experienced missions organization.
While we’re there, we’ll be putting on a few chapel assemblies in schools, painting a new church and at a school, and distributing hygiene kits (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.) in poorer areas that often lack that sort of thing.
I’m thrilled for our students to experience international missions like I did when I was their age, an experience that shaped my paradigm and radically changed my perspective of the world.
How can you help? Glad you asked!
1) Pray for us. I told our students I’m not going if we don’t have people praying for us. There’s too many things that can go wrong on a trip like this for us to not be covered in prayer when we go.
2) Consider running in the Nicaragua 5k!
It’s just $20 per runner, and all of that will go to support our students going on the trip or to fund the projects we’re doing in Nicaragua.
We’re asking that people register, just so we can know how many to expect. We’ll start at the Neuse River Greenway Trail parking lot by the Falls Lake dam, right off “old” Falls of Neuse Rd. before the old bridge.
Above all, thanks for your prayers. We’re thrilled about what God wants to do in the hearts and minds of our students this summer!
