We’ve done one event in the last 12 months that hasn’t required me to do any transportation arrangement, content planning, or major marketing or advertisement. It just grew. All I had to do was let people know about it, take the money, and show up at the right time.
I don’t know if you’ve heard about these places, but “trampoline parks” are starting to pop up around us. Defy Gravity (near RDU airport) opened up last year, and has become a pretty popular place. It’s basically a huge warehouse covered/filled with trampolines. It’s also got a “trampoline dodgeball” area, a 16-foot basketball goal, and a foam pit (crowd favorite).
Most of my students already knew about Defy Gravity, and some had been there already! So generating student interest took no work at all. I had nearly 20 people sign up the first day I made it available. We ended up taking nearly 40 students total, which gave us a great group rate. Students could fill out the release waiver online, so that significantly reduced the paperwork I had to handle.
Ultimately, I just had to collect the money and show up on time to get it organized. We jumped for an hour and a half, which I thought was going to be too long, but it ended up working out well. Our adult leaders that jumped enjoyed themselves as well – you could go as intense or easy as you’d like.
The staff was great and easy to work with, and accommodated us well. If you are looking for an easy event to organize with a group [of students], I would definitely look into Defy Gravity.
