Happy New Year!
I’ve taken a bit of an absence from blogging the past two weeks as Nancy and I have been celebrating and traveling a bit over the holidays.
As many of you know, yesterday was a big, BIG day for us. On our last day in Nashville, TN, we stopped by the Dave Ramsey Show headquarters to celebrate debt freedom as we paid off $110,000 in 32 months!
Much, much more (pictures, video, audio) on that experience and our whole journey still to come, but for now I wanted to share with you my journal entry from yesterday morning:
I am thankful for a new year, a fresh start, a new beginning.
Today is a big day for Nancy and me. We will head to the Dave Ramsey studios, strap on some headphones and scream aloud “WEEE’RREE DEBT FRREEEEEEEE!”
And what a [fast] journey it has been! Just 3 years ago we moved in, just 32 months ago we signed papers and began this process.
We’ve scrimped and saved and eaten everything in the house and said “no” more times than I can count and waited and waited and worked and planned and prayed and saved and gave and went crazy to make this happen.
And God responded faithfully, faithfully. He showed himself strong on our behalf. We couldn’t have done this without Him and His blessing and His provision in our lives.
And who knows where we’d be without Dave Ramsey? His teaching (from God’s Word) has absolutely changed the trajectory of our lives. It has put us on the same page and same game plan, has given us a shared language, helped us have a shared vision for our lives and motivated us to make it happen.
We believe (and have for some time now) that we are called to be exemplary in this area of our lives, that we are to be an inspiration to those around us so that they see and believe that it can be done. We’re called to be an example of stewardship, generosity, discipline, selflessness, care, and love.
With this blessing comes responsibility. Oh, God, give us the strength to remain wholly faithful with the money and ability that you have given to us. May we honor you with these blessings all the days of our lives and bring glory to your name. Hallelujah!!
